I Can't Help Myself

As some of you may know, when I was pregnant with Dylan in 2007 I started to play around with digital scrapbooking. I designed a little, I was on a few creative teams, and almost everyday I was putting together one or two digital scrapbooking layouts. Now, I enjoy using some of my supplies for my art that I trade, so even though I am not really involved in that community I always keep an eye out on some of my favorite digital scrapbooking shops.

My ALL TIME FAVORITE is Shabby Pickle Designs. Well, I received a newsletter from them today and there was so much new amazing stuff! It lit a fire in me! I am having the desire to play around a bit again with this hobby.

Anyways here is the digi kit that REALLY got my attention (I bought a couple including this one).

I LOVE the altered feel of it. I went through all my photos trying to think of one I would like to use. My first thought was some of my wedding photos that I have yet to do anything with. I found one of my favorites which had my best friend Jeanne putting on my vail. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Thanks for visiting!

The Haunted Masquerade Blog Event

I know it is a little early, but I am just so excited. I have decided to do a "Haunted Masquerade Blog Event". I am super excited and just could not wait to tell you about it. The idea came to me when I was making plans for my Marie group to have something fun for the Halloween season. As I was thinking I came up with all kinds of different ideas for swaps such as Trick or Treat bags, a mask swap, and different ideas for costume swaps. I tried to think how I could incorporate Marie into the holiday season and then it hit me, DUH . . . a Masquerade! In order to give the swap players enough time to sign up and create, my event is planned for them to start in Aug.

So while planning this I thought that a blog event would be so much fun! So here are the details. The idea is that everyone host their own "Haunted Masquerade " on their blog on Oct. 24th . You can do your party however you would like. You can display, create, share, and giveaway anything that inspires you. What comes to your mind when you think . . . Masquerade?

Phantom of the Opera

When I think of a Masquerade I picture colors such as amber, gold, silver, and black. I can picture the room being warm from all the candle light. I would love to go to a grand ball and see everyone dressed in elegant gowns with beautiful satin and silky materials with jewels galore. The sky would be dark with diamond like stars, and perhaps I might Waltz under the moon light. The sweet smell of perfumes and pastries filling the air inside. The beautiful paintings and gold moldings adoring the ceiling and walls. Photo by maoycaza

Everything would sparkle and shin with jewels and crystals. And what fun it would be admire each wonderful detailed mask.

And how fun it would be to imagine the mysterious unwanted guest, and eyes shifting in the paintings. The spider webs hanging in the corner, and the poisonous goblet of wine.

If you would like to join me in the celebration post a comment blog with your blog name and address and I will keep a list in my sidebar. Feel free to use either the larger ad, or the small blog button to the left, and be sure to leave your comment below. You can attach this link to the image: http://myartfuladventures.blogspot.com/2009/07/haunted-masquerade-blog-event.html

P.S I will also be adding the above collage sheet I created to my Etsy store very soon.

Tea with the Queen

I have been working extra hard to try to catch up on all my swaps! Since I did not do much creating in June I have a lot I need to catch up on. This week has been great since I have felt very inspired and managed to finish my pincushion, my crown, my little Marie cards, and 2 book pages. Yesterday I thought I would work on my ATC cards for a stamping ATC swap on my Marie site. The rules where you could do anything you would like that might be Marie or French related as long as you use at least 2 stamps and your main focal image is a stamp.

I did mine "Tea with the Queen". I used 2 stamps. A teacup image from Sweet Impressions, and a large text image from Alluring Impressions. I thought I would share with you how I created them.

1. I started with a few sheets of old book pages. Using a small sponge I applied color to random spots using a variety of pigment and fluid chalk ink pads.

2. I stamped the teacup image in multiple locations on the book pages.

3. Next I stamped the teacup a variety of times onto white cardstock.

4. I cut out bits and pieces of the teacup that was stamped on the white cardstock.

5. I matched up the white stamped cuts with the book page teacup image and glued them down.

6. Next I applied color to the white pieces using the ink pads and Q-tips.

7. Then I glued the full teacup image to a sheet of white cardstock to stiffen up the image a bit and cut it out.

8. Next I stamped the teacup image onto a transparency using Stazon black ink and cut it out. Then I lined up the transparency image up with the second teacup image, using diamond glaze I glued them together.

9. For the background I teared and glued a variety of papers to a watercolor paper cut ATC size.

10. Once I glued the torn images I then stamped the large text image in random spots.

11. Using a ColorBox Pigment Stamp Pad in Frost White I stamped over the background. I pressed hard in some spots and lighter in others. This was to help the background papers blend together well.

12. Using blue thread I sewed messy stitches around the edges and glued pink paper to the back to cover the back of the card.

13. Next I cut out some roses and glued them to the center of the teacup and attached a small millinery flower.

14. I glued the teacup to the background and applied a bit of Stickles glitter glue.

Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting me.

Little Cuties

Here are some cards that I created for a Little Marie Cuties ATC swap.

And speaking of CUTIES my little baby Monkey is feeling great and back to climbing and jumping on things. He is an adrenaline junky I swear! The doctor said if he is climbing on everything there should not be a problem with letting him have one safe thing to climb on. So we let him climb on the coffee table since he knows how to get up and down it. WELL now he has decided he wants to start DIVING OFF OF IT! Ugh what a little monkey. And guess what his favorite fruit is? . . . . . Thanks right BANANAS!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tristan's Masquerade Crown

I am excited to share with you Tristan's Masquerade themed crown! We have a Le Diadème de la Reine swap going on at my Marie Art Group. Tristan said he liked the idea of a Masquerade theme. He told me his favorite colors are black, royal purple and gold. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but it was funny how it seemed this crown put it's self together.

I knew I wanted a mask covered in black German glass glitter in the center, but I was not sure what I wanted to do for a base. One day last week I found a Art Glass store that is about 40 minutes from me. I decided to go to pick up some soldering material. While I was there I saw this beautiful brass trim coiled up. I asked if it was for sale, and she agreed to sell me some. This was the first piece, the foundation for the crown. Once I knew what I was doing for a foundation my mind began to whirl with ideas. I wanted to try to use as much of the stuff I had around the house as possible. I went to Michael's to look for things, there was stuff I could use, but I wanted to have a bit more of a personal touch. So I decided not to buy a bunch of dried foliage and flowers.

On the way home I thought of an idea. I thought it would be nice to use wire, but as I envisioned it in my head. . . it did not seem like just wire would add what I was looking for. It lacked sparkle! I really wanted this crown to gleam. So I decided to make a special sparkle recipe and dip my wire into it. I added sheer ribbon to help the sparkle mixture stick. I think it turned out perfect.

I thought I would share with you the technique I came up with. I think this technique has all sorts of possibility. Think of all the wire shapes and ornaments you could use this technique on.

1. Wrap soft artistic wire around your object of choice.

2. Cut one end of the wire to form a sharp point.

3. Using a wide sheer ribbon make 1 or 2 small cuts to the edge and tear.

4. Using a variety of twist and turns thread the ribbon onto the wire. I did mine with both tight and loose spots.

5. Cut off your sharp end and coil both ends up to hold the ribbon.

6. Using items in your craft supply make a mixture of items. Here are examples of things to add: glitter (a variety of fine, and chunky looks great), micro beads, and seed beads. Also try fine cut up pieces of fiber, yarn, thread, and ribbon. Small hard embellishments like chain, crystals, watch parts and tiny brass charms.

7. Cover your wire piece with diamond glaze and dip into the mixture. Repeat this step for all pieces. If you have a few items to dip you may need to re-add your fiber materials since these tend to attach the easiest. This way you do not have just your glitter and hard elements as you go on to do the other pieces.

8. Set your piece aside to dry on a covered surface over night.

I hope you enjoy, and I would love to see pics or know if you tried this and liked it. Here are all the supplies I used on Tristan's Crown. I did use almost everything from my own supplies except the brass base and the burgundy feathers. Sorry Tristan I could not find royal purple.

Embellishment Supplies: Vintage glass gems, black gemstone beads, Czech glass beads, dark brass and gold wire (dead soft), diamond glaze, German glass glitter black, feathers, small glass gems, and other beads.

Pincushion Cake Slice

We are doing a pincushion swap on my Marie site. I have seen a few photos of pincushions that look like a slice of cake and really wanted to make one. My husband does Hot Rod Interior Upholstery for a living. He is great with figuring things out so I ask him to draw me a pattern and help me with putting one together. He made the pattern for me, and explained it and the rest was up to me. I don't really sew. I use my machine for art stuff, but have never put anything together like this!

My first try was a BIG flop! Literally! It was a poorly sewn odd looking shape that was funny looking. I remember from awhile back with fabric ATC's using interfacing. So I went to the store to get some interfacing and steam a seam to help give my cake shape. Since then Dylan was sick and I did not have a chance to continue my little experiment.

Today I had some time and thought I would continue my little project. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with my results. My second try I would consider a success! I am sure if my grandmother who quilts took a look at it she might find a spot or two, but for someone who is not a sewing expert I think it looks great. Especially considering I had no directions. Woho thank God for husbands that can draw cake patterns!

To decorate I used a pretty fabric, some embroidered lace, pink trim, Swarovski crystal beads, vintage seam binding, store bought silk, silk I dyed, Hanah Hand Dyed Silk, and satin ribbon. All of the ribbon work was done by me.

Thanks so much for visiting, I hope you enjoyed my cake. My cake slice will be going to Melanie.

Melanie I hope you enjoy your pincushion. :)
